About the lighthouse:
This octagonal, gray stone tower overlooks the terminus of the Erie Canal. Built in 1833 and then raised to its present height of 60 feet in 1858, it stood watch over the Canal until its decommissioning in 1914. It stood idle until 1987, when it was beautifully restored, and its light was relit for the first time in 73 years. Overall lamp height is 24".

Sandy Hook, built in 1764 by Isaac Conro, is the oldest surviving lighthouse structure in the United States; as such, it is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The octagonal structure has masonry walls that are 7 feet thick at the base and a tower that rises to a height of 85 feet. Overall lamp height is 25".
