About the lighthouse:
Middle Bay, built in 1885 in Mobile, is a style of lighthouse most frequently employed in Chesapeake Bay, but used here as well, since it is located out in the middle of a bay. The lighthouse consists of a hexagonal cottage, with the lantern rising from its pyramid-shaped roof. The entire structure sits up above the water on iron pilings that are screwed securely into the muddy floor of the bay. Overall lamp height is 24".
